Groups:
The Beginner rider has only had a minimal amount of exposure to horses either around them or riding them.
The Novice rider is confident in the skills necessary for trotting and is ready to begin cantering and jumping. The Novice rider may have some experience with both, but is not fully confident.
The Intermediate rider is confident in cantering and jumping, including jumping courses.
Camp Descriptions:
Session 1 & 6
Beginner/Novice camps are designed to get beginner riders off to a good start; as well as helping the novice rider become more confident for advancing in both riding skills and horsemanship.
Session 2 & 5
This camp is designed to enhance the knowledge and skills of the campers both in the saddle and in the barn. The goal of this camp is for the campers to learn how to create and organize a small horse show. Campers will determine what classes they want to have in the show and will then create and distribute the prize list. They will secure a judge, order ribbons, and will invite several other barns to participate. The riding portion will be a continuation of their riding skills in preparation for horse showing. The second week of camp will focus on getting ready for the horse show that they designed in Week 2 camp. They will make and set the courses, make sure the ring is cleaned and prepared, figure out concessions and parking, and other preparations for hosting our show. The riding portion of the camp will be focusing on being ready to horse show.
Session 3
This three-day camp is designed for young children wanting to explore the world of horses and farms. They will learn about feeding and caring for horses by helping with farm chores. They will learn how to groom horses safely and will have instruction in riding.
Session 4
This camp will continue the riding skills they have previously developed and build on those skills. The theory portion of the camp will focus on different ways to enjoy horses. We will have a dressage trainer come teach us how to ride a dressage test, we will have a former competitive trail rider come discuss the aspects of that sport, we will go to a western barn and get to experience western riding, and we will be exploring the world of polo.
